Abstract

The condenser is an essential component in a Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCPP), where it functions to convert exhaust steam from the turbine into condensate so it can be reused in the power generation cycle. In addition, the condenser helps maintain a vacuum condition at the turbine outlet, which plays an important role in overall system performance. This study aims to evaluate the heat transfer performance of the condenser at PLTGU Priok Block 4 using a seawater cooling system. The analysis is carried out using the Log Mean Temperature Difference (LMTD) method along with the calculation of condenser efficiency based on actual operational data. The observed data show that the inlet seawater temperature is 30.5°C, the outlet temperature is 36°C, and the steam temperature is 41°C. The results indicate that the LMTD value is 7.42°C, while the condenser efficiency reaches 52.38%. These findings suggest that heat transfer is occurring reasonably well, although there is still room for improvement. Several factors affecting the condenser performance include fouling on the tube surface, non-optimal fluid flow, and thermal resistance within the system. Therefore, optimization efforts such as regular tube cleaning, improving the cooling water flow rate, and maintaining the vacuum system are necessary to enhance the overall performance of the condenser.
